Crompton cricket club is located centrally in the village of Crompton off Glebe Street, Shaw, Oldham. Our main entrance and carparks are situated at the end of Christine Street and the rear of the premises. We also have side entrances from Fraser Street and Duchess Street Shops.

Crompton was formed in the late 1890’s and spent the majority of this time participating in the Central Lancashire League.  

In 2018 Crompton joined the Lancashire league having made the decision to not join the newly formed Greater Manchester Premier League as we believed this was in the best interest of the club and would be more competitive cricket.

Now that we have been part of the Lancashire League for 6 years and have enjoyed some success during along with some heartache.  

Crompton had an excellent first season and finished in 9th place meaning that we would play in Premier League Division with the expansion of the Lancashire League to 24 clubs.  Unfortunately the following season wasn’t a success and we were relegated from the Premier Division so would be playing in the Junior Division in the coming season.

Over the last few years, we have just missed out on promotion and have finished 3rd/4th respectively with us agonisingly missing out on a couple of occasions.

Since being part of the Lancashire League we have had good success in the T20 competition with us reaching the Quarter Finals in all but one season, hosting and participating in the Finals days which was a great spectacle for both League/Club and then being beaten by Clitheroe in the Final back in 2023.

In 2024 our fortunes changed and we became T20 Champions by beating hosts Clitheroe in the rearranged Final due to bad weather on August Bank Holiday Monday.  

Needing 26 to win of the final over in the semi-final Professional Mohammad Jamal did this with a ball to spare finishing on 99 Not Out which sparred great celebrations in reaching the final which we went on to win in tense fashion.

We also have a junior section comprising of an U9’s, U11’s, U13’s, U’15’s and an U18’s.  Winter Indoor Training will be starting soon so please keep an eye on social media for further information.

All our junior cricket teams have qualified coaches who are dedicated to making sure all our junior cricketers learn in a safe and secure environment. All our coaches are DBS checked as is the Safeguarding Officer of the club.

On the social side, our clubhouse has a large function room, a snooker/games room as well as an outdoor children’s park and beer garden. In addition, there is the cricket pitch, a football pitch, and masses of well kept grassed areas, all within a secure and safe environment.

Our ground is completely enclosed with beautiful far reaching views over the Pennine Hills which are the envy of many other clubs.
